Sardinia day or known in Sardo as SA DIE DE SA SARDIGNA commemorates the Sardinian Vespers uprising on the 28th April 1794.
On this day the people of Cagliari rebelled against their Piedmontese overlords, after they had refused Sardinians greater civil liberties and increased autonomy. Alghero and Sassari followed Cagliari's example expelling their Piedmontese governors
In Cagliari hundreds of people gather in the Castello district to celebrate this day
