This is a festival not to be missed! Aritzo is a small mountain town, in the Nuoro region,famous for its chestnuts and walnuts, It explodes into life in the last weekend in October to celebrate the bountiful nut harvests.
For three days Arizo is filled with the woody aromas of the roasting chestnuts which are piled high in wooden baskets and offered to visitors. Chestnuts and walnuts are not the only thing on offer, taste the succulent suckling pig which is roasted in front of your eyes. There are organised tasting sessions allowing you to try some local produce such as wine , cheese, the local sorbet called carapigna and the famous nougat. Throughout the three days of festivities there are a range of processions and musical concerts and cooking demonstrations. The festival lasts from the Friday to the Sunday.
This is a very popular festival if you are intending to stay in the area it is best to book accomodation well in advance
