Gonnesa is a small village, close to the sea in the South west corner of Sardinia about 60km west of Cagliari. The area is well known for its four beaches: Porto Paglia, Fontanamare, Sa punta e’ s’arena and Spiaggia di Mezzo
The Local Beaches
Fontanamare beach is well-known for its windsurfing and kitesurfing. The beach has 3 kms of golden sand dunes. The beach has: disabled toilet, a large car park, bar, hotel and restaurant.
Porto Paglia Beach: access point further south along the coast from Gonnesa, with its dunes, bays set into the cliff, is suitable for those who love beaches not too crowded and unspoiled nature. Porto Paglia beach is in the Gulf of Gonnesa. It has a sandy shore with its silky bordered by rocks where a luxuriant vegetation grows. The water is clear and blue. Again a popular location for surfing and diving
Sa Punta e’ S’arena: One of the more frequesnted beaches in the area, although given the natural beauty of the beachit’s well worth a visit. Here you’ll find restaurant and a bar where you can rent umbrellas and deck chairs.
Climbing & Other AAttractions
This Area is one of the most popular areas for free climbing. White rock cliffs overlooking the sea, present a haven for climbers who come from around the world to tackle the varied and challenging cliffs in the area : cave of St. John in the nearby Domusnovas, numerous caves in the town of Gonnesa.
In the nearby village Nuraghe Seruci, there is the largest Nuraghe in Sardinia which extends for more than six hectares, still partly unexplored and soon to be open to the public.The Seruci complex consists of a complex nuraghe, a breakwater, a large village of 100 huts and at least one giant tomb. Excavations so far have revealed block, made up of 14 rooms arranged in centripetal development around a central courtyard: a typical house of the last stage of Nuraghic, evolution of the simple single-celled clusters of huts.
